Why use a remote station?
A location with good reception is essential for an ambitious SWL to successfully enjoy his hobby. Unfortunately it gets more and more difficult to achive this from your home.
On the one hand there is considerable interference by other electronic devices on the other hand the implementation of efficient antennae is difficult to impossible due to rejection by neighbours or legal building regulations.
Living in an urban environment with good infrastructure very often conflicts with good reception.
So the desire for a location without any restrictions grows. The right place should be far away from residential or industrial areas, maybe on a hill and not too conveniently reached as regards transport facilities. This is where a remote station becomes relevant.
I, OE2CRM have decided to build such a remote station. In case this subject is interesting to other SWL or DXers I want to document the process (mainly in pictures).

Der Empfang wird nie echt live sein (Punkto QSL Bestätigung, eine moralische Frage?) dann kann ich auch genauso gut via x-beliebigem Remote Rx (Twente SDR, GlobalTuners, SDR Console online Rxe, etc) meine QSl Karten einheimsen 😦

Nein Bob, das sehe ich nicht so. Denn es ist *meine* Station die ich mir selbst aufgebaut habe um hier in Salzburg – und nicht irgendwo – seltenes DX zu hören. Meine Motivation ist mit dieser möglichst guten Empfangsanlage in Österreich Signale aus aller Welt zu hören. Natürlich kann ich einen Mittelwellensender aus Panamá auch über einen SDR irgendwo in Mittelamerika hören, aber das hat doch keine Faszination. Da nütze ich dann doch gleich einen Webstream… Und wg der Entfernung zur Station: Da halte ich es mit der ARRL die auch nur Remote Stationen zulässt die im selben Bundesland bzw nur in einer bestimmten maximalen Entfernung zum Wohnort liegt. Zuletzt zum Argument “live”: Selbst wenn ich mit einem SDR hier höre ist es um mindestens eine halbe bis Sekunde verzögert zu meinen analogen Empfängern, also auch nicht mehr live. Das ganze ist ein Hobby für mich, eine “QSL” ist eine nette Geste der Station, nicht mehr und nicht weniger.
